Playa Paraiso
Playa Paraíso, is often hailed as one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. This slice of paradise offers powdery white sand, gentle waves, warm and turquoise waters, making it the perfect escape for beach lovers and families. Located just minutes from Tulum’s iconic Mayan ruins, Playa Paraíso is an ideal spot for sunbathing, swimming, and capturing Instagram-worthy photos. Popularity means it can get crowded, especially during peak season. Beach clubs and nearby services can be really pricey especially if you decide to go to the “zona hotelera”, where a sunbed will cost around $150. If not, bring your essentials, as amenities are limited, and get there early to claim your spot on the sand!
Playa Pescadores
Playa Pescadores is Tulum’s hidden gem for those seeking a more authentic beach experience. This public beach offers a more laid-back atmosphere with a bohemian vibe, where you can see local fishermen at work and visitors enjoying the soft white sand and crystal-clear waters, ideal for long walks and beachcombing. Located just north of Playa Paraíso, Playa Pescadores is perfect for travelers looking for a quieter, more budget-friendly alternative. Numerous beachfront restaurants and bars are also to be found there. With climate changes, and global warming, expect frequent seaweed on beaches, despite services that come and clean regularly, the phenomenon is predominant now.
Playa Ruinas
Playa Ruinas offers a unique beach experience, where history meets natural beauty. Located directly below Tulum’s famous Mayan ruins, this beach is a stunning blend of culture and coastal splendor, the backdrop of cliffs and ruins makes for incredible photos. Playa Ruinas is a must-visit for those exploring Tulum’s archaeological site. After touring the ruins, unwind by the sea in the refreshing Caribbean waters and soak in the views of this historically rich and picturesque beach.
Akumal Beach
Just a short drive from Tulum, Akumal Beach is a tranquil haven known for its beautiful waters and abundant marine life, particularly its famous sea turtles. The name "Akumal" means "Place of the Turtles" in the Mayan language, and it's easy to see why. With its calm, clear waters and protected bays, Akumal Beach is the perfect destination for snorkeling, and probably one of the best places to swim with sea turtles in their natural habitat. Safe for families with children you'll enjoy a peaceful beach day, swimming in calm waters and experiencing the natural beauty of the Riviera Maya. Be aware that some areas require a fee for access or guided tours to protect the turtles.
